Operation Augur Briefing - Mode Details and Stakes of the Battlefield

Operation Augur puts you in the boots of either a NATO Battalion soldier or Pax Armata defender. Before diving into the stakes of this narrative-forward 48-soldier experience, these are the key similarities between Operation Augur and Operations from previous Battlefield games:
Mode Details
Similar to Battlefield 6’s Breakthrough mode, Operation Augur is a sector-by-sector battle: the Attackers - NATO - secure each sector from the Defenders - Pax Armata - by holding one or multiple control points at the same time.
Whereas Breakthrough takes place on one map, Operation Augur strings together Contaminated and Hagental Base, creating nine total sectors to attack or defend. In Contaminated specifically, a VL-7 Strike occurs once a sector is captured, save for the fifth sector before Operation Augur transitions to Hagental Base. Furthermore, unlike Breakthrough, teams are unable to respawn on controlled objectives; you must rely on squad spawns, spawn-enabled vehicles, and the Assault Class’ Spawn Beacons if you don’t want to take the trek from Headquarters back to the objective after each death.
Just like Operations in the past, Attackers have three “Batallions” of lives in Operation Augur, rather than a single pool of lives. The first two times a Battalion’s lives are completely depleted, a new Battalion reinforces at the furthest checkpoint reached. Specific to Contaminated, a reinforcement Battalion will also receive additional vehicle reinforcements to help them push towards Hagental Base.
Operation Augur ends when Pax Armata successfully depletes all three NATO Battalions, or if NATO captures all nine sectors.
This experience all takes place at a critical moment for both NATO and Pax Armata in the War of 2027, as detailed in pre-game briefings summarized below:
Stakes of the Battlefield - Operation Augur

Ready to strike with VL-7 smoke and the Marine-hardened Strix Raiders, NATO must re-secure Hagental Base, home to their Satellite Operations Center, from Pax Armata. You are a soldier on the operation's frontline:
As part of NATO's offensive, your first order is to control the "Contaminated" valley. Exhaust Pax Armata's initial defenses from the hamlet then, under clouds of VL-7 smoke, push past the Siegfried Line through hangers and staging areas to Hagental Base's entrance.
Once there, blast your way to the Satellite Operations Center; walls are merely suggestions. Through maintenance bays, server rooms, and intricate tunnels, the fate of the free world comes down to every last engagement. Fail, and NATO command is powerless to stop Pax Armata's next - and decisive - advance.
However, if Pax Armata signs your checks, then your mission is to fend off multiple NATO battalions and ensure Operation Augur is a footnote in history. Endless reinforcements will help against the onslaught, but know that this may be your last chance at securing armed peace... because although you fight for Pax Armata, who exactly is your leader?
Stage 1 - Contaminated

Contaminated, the first stage of Operation Augur, has five distinct sectors, which are the exact same sectors from the Breakthrough experience on this map. In other words, if you spent time mastering Contaminated Breakthrough, then you are well prepared for Operation Augur’s opening stage:
Hamlet
To start, NATO and Pax Armata will fight for control of one objective: a house - or what will become the remains of one - surrounded by trenches. Both sides have access to Light Ground Transports and Quad Bikes for faster movement on the dirt roads, although the attacking NATO side also receives an LTV and an Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
Consider this first objective a tutorial for basic attacker and defense strategies. For attackers, the key to success is establishing a forward position. Use squadmates, the Deploy Beacon, or vehicles to spawn closer to the objective and continuously apply pressure to the defending team.
Defenders, on the other hand, may want to lean on Gadgets and strategies that swiftly destroy vehicles or enemy Gadgets. The Engineer’s Launchers, as well as the Recon’s new Hardware Suppression System and its old reliable Recon Drone, can disrupt enemy advancements and their most powerful tools for breaching the front lines.
Siegfried Line / Hagental Tunnel

Should the Hamlet fall - and it most likely will - the next objectives are at the Siegfried Line. Objective A is in the ruined remains of a bunker system, while Objective B is within the Hagental Tunnel.
At this point, the Pax Armata defenders get an Infantry Fighting Vehicle of their own, which can help lock down the open-air ruins or decimate targets down range in the tunnel. However, this is also the stage where destructible environment pieces can yield success for the Attackers: the north side of the Hagental Tunnel is breachable, making it easier to attack Objective B from multiple angles. Once one objective falls, be prepared to see this mountainside crumble and lock down this cross-objective route.
Maintenance Hangar
Another two-objective sector, the Maintenance Hangar is where the “X-Factor” of VL-7 Smoke can more noticeably cause chaos for both teams. Unlike the previous sector, the objectives are in a straight line rather than split: Attackers will push up to the trenches at Objective A before attempting to take the Hangar at Objective B.
When transitioning from the previous sector and the Maintenance Hangar sector, both sides may find it easier to lead from the Hagental Tunnel (previous Objective B). However, there are still plenty of flanking opportunities from Contaminated’s north side, which could be used in a desperate defense scenario to recapture Objective A while B is under attack.
Although the Assault, Recon, and Engineer Classes have strong opening gambits in Operation Augur, this sector is where the Support Class gains further chances to shine, if they haven’t already single-handedly saved lives. During the VL-7 smoke strikes, remember that Support Class can rapidly resupply Gas Mask filters to the entire team, especially when using their Supply Bag, making them an invaluable asset at this stage.
Ramp / Apron

Similar to the Maintenance Hangar, attackers may find it easier to capture the Ramp (Objective A) before the Apron (Objective B). With that in mind, there are several guard towers around Objective B that can make a single-route approach difficult for attackers, making a split offensive from Objective A and their headquarters a potentially better strategy.
Regardless of the objective, this is where Contaminated’s natural hills open up to serious long-range duels for valley control. Concrete wall sections, containers, bastions, and supply caches are the best cover pieces in this otherwise open staging lane for large military vehicles. Use these and massive rocks jutting out of the hills for cover, lest a high caliber bullet - from a rifle or a tank - catch you by surprise.
Hagental Base Entrance
The final Contaminated sector is one objective: the entrance to Hagental Base, with multiple Hangars open and ready to welcome troops either through its doors or over the top. Here is where either team can easily get overwhelmed by multi-level fighting; with each bunker able to be climbed on, a smart squad should focus on controlling the high ground.
Failing to do so allows the opposition to decide who controls the final objective, placed right at the center of multiple bunkers. Vehicle operators may be tempted to park atop - or near - this central objective, so Engineers may want to place their mines accordingly while preparing to flank from the rooftops.
Stage 2 - Hagental Base

Hagental Base, the second and final stage of Operation Augur, has four distinct sectors:
Emergency Generators
Attackers must secure two objectives within the Emergency Generators: one right outside their headquarters (Objective A) and another in the Maintenance Area (Objective B). With all vehicles disabled inside the tunnel and an abundance of confined spaces, this second stage transforms Operation Augur into an intense battle for corridor control, so update your loadouts accordingly.
As you will learn from this first sector, this base’s walls are brittle, especially within the West Tunnel that runs south underneath both objectives. A savvy attacker or defender can breach these walls to create new lanes or partially destroy cover for some seriously unexpected sightlines.
Although most of Hagental Base plays well for close-quarters weaponry, the Maintenance Area (Objective B) serves as a great example of where long-range weapons can outperform the competition. Note the long hallways between the maintenance bays and catwalks that stretch across this massive rectangular room, and you’ll eventually find a viewpoint to stare down with a high-powered optic.
Central Tunnel

Great news - there is only one objective to focus your attention on… Although it is in the center of the Central Tunnel in no-man’s land. Attackers will pour out of the Maintenance Area right in front of the objective, but have the option to either use the West Tunnel for a flank - and ultimately push north with long-range weapons - or breach through smaller hallways.
Defenders should set up defenses in and around the tunnel wreckage, given how it can be used to block all sorts of damage. Otherwise, the best approach is to focus Attackers down one lane towards this objective. Firing from the south down the tunnel is a potential Battalion-wiping idea, although the main objective’s wreckage and various other cover pieces can be used against your squad.
Depot
Again, this sector only contains one objective: staged atop the catwalks of the Depot, expect complete chaos with two distinct flank routes from the larger East Tunnel (north of the objective) or the smaller tunnels to the South.
During the transition from the Central Tunnel to the Depot, long-range weapons, such as the DMR and the Sniper Rifle, can pick off enemies heading down the tunnels towards the objective. However, as the fight progresses, especially as walls are blown open into the Depot, your squad may find more success switching to tools with shorter effective ranges over time, from Assault Rifles, to Carbines and SMGs, to even Shotguns for room - or hallway - clearing potential.
Either side may find this objective easier to attack - or defend - with the use of Smoke-emitting Gadgets and Grenades. Reduced visibility allows for a squad to either advance or reset their position, giving themselves extra time to revive teammates or conceal movements around the objective.
Server

The ultimate sector is split into two objectives, the end of the East Tunnel (Objective A) and the Server room (Objective B). Attackers will want to immediately blow open every last wall to access all potential lanes to these objectives, with a heavy emphasis on close-range weapons - SMGs, Carbines, Shotguns, and even Sidearms - in these intimate and intense spaces.
At this point, a Defending team can easily get split and throw away the entire Operation if they give up. However, the Server room is the greatest sector to demonstrate a “bend, not break” mentality: the Attackers could easily be contained in the rooms just before the two objectives (South of Objective A, West of Objective B). Try using Incendiary Gadgets and Grenades to deny attempts to push past this room, and target squads who are attempting to revive in dangerous locations.
Top Ten Operation Augur Tips and Tricks

- REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING. Season 2 prepared you for Operation Augur through Contaminated Breakthrough and various Hagental Base experiences. Recall your tactics for success earlier in the season, and you are sure to win this mode.
- A BATTALION IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS WEAKEST SQUAD. Especially for the Attackers, who have limited lives, Operation Augur is best experienced with a full squad who can coordinate cohesive strategies. If you roll solo, use the in-game communication wheel to enhance your “pings” and calls for resources like health or ammo.
- ATTACKERS - ESTABLISH FORWARD POSITIONS. Use the Assault Class’ Deploy Beacon, vehicles, and smart squadmates who prioritize staying alive over reckless battles to keep the pressure on objectives.
- DEFENDERS - REINFORCE DURING RETREAT. If a sector falls, use the transition moments to set up mines and advantageous positions to immediately counter offensive advancements.
- MAKE YOUR OWN LANES. Destructable walls across Contaminated and Hagental Base can open up new paths to victory. When playing Operation Augur, try using explosive Gadgets to breach-and-clear spaces for your squad to advance or prevent an offensive charge.
- A LOADOUT FOR EVERY SITUATION. Contaminated’s hillsides and Hagental Base’s tunnels demand different loadouts for success; use all available Loadout slots to prepare for various combat scenarios.
- STAGE ONE - MASK UP. In Contaminated, don’t forget to use your mask to prevent VL-7 smoke hallucinations. A nearby squadmate using a Support Class can help you restock filters and keep your head even in the most intense moments.
- STAGE TWO - SMOKE ‘EM OUT. In Hagental Base, the confined spaces are conducive to smoke Gadgets and Grenades. Use them to conceal movements for flanking, reviving teammates, or simply creating a distraction.
- MIND THE REINFORCEMENTS. Especially in Contaminated, where additional vehicles are given to Attackers, be prepared to reset your strategy when a full Battalion is lost. Use this opportunity to rethink how you attack - or defend - a sector.
- DOWN BUT NOT OUT. Just because a sector or Battalion is lost doesn’t mean Operation Augur is over. Adapt your strategy against the enemy’s strongest squad and counter them accordingly; for example, you can neutralize a grenade-happy foursome with multiple intercept systems, or ensure a shotgun and SMG tyrant can’t get into effective range with a barrage of heavy Sniper Rifle fire.
Operation Augur can be a major source for success in Hunter / Prey’s Bonus Path, which includes the new Serrated Blade melee weapon. On Hunter / Prey’s launch date and beyond, you can read more intel about this Bonus Path, including free rewards and additional items for Bonus Path Items.
