HOW TO PLAY CASUAL BATTLE ROYALE

Battlefield REDSEC is made for every player and squad.

Casual Battle Royale is an improved introduction to a Battle Royale that only Battlefield can deliver: with massive-scale destruction, fast-paced squad play, and the deadliest ring in BR, you’ll scavenge, shoot, and survive to become the last team standing. Featuring a mix of real player teams and bot-filled squads, this mode is intentionally designed as a learning environment for new players and a testing ground for those looking to improve map knowledge, core combat abilities, and even exploring new seasonal features.

Here’s everything you need to know about this mode:

CASUAL BATTLE ROYALE - THE BASICS

Armed soldiers in tactical gear skydive over a battlefield as helicopters fly nearby and explosions light up the horizon, showcasing an intense combat drop scene.

A Battle Royale Quads mode variant, Casual Battle Royale pits 100 “players” - 25 teams of four individual soldiers (Quads) - against each other in an all-out controlled chaos fight for survival. The “players” are both fellow human soldiers and bots: at launch, expect eight full human Quads and 17 Bot Quads, which means there are several progression changes for the sake of general balance (detailed under our “Note - Altered Progression and XP” section).

Otherwise, a Casual Battle Royale is the exact same experience as a traditional Battle Royale Quads. This is covered in great detail in our Battle Royale 101 guide (updated with new Class Training Paths, such as the Recon Training Path added in the Season 3 High-Value Target Update). However, in the spirit of “keeping it casual” - because what’s more casual than saying “too long, didn’t read” - here’s the TL;DR of how to play:

  • Form a squad (or we’ll fill with Randoms) and queue into a match.
  • While in the infiltration helicopter, choose your Class, Training Path (for active and passive Gadgets and abilities), Starting Sidearm, and Melee Weapon. Read the on-screen explainers for more information.
  • Drop in as a squad! Named areas may have more enemies abound, but may contain more valuable items. Be careful not to break off too far from your squadmates.
  • Loot, fight, survive together: scavenge weapons, accept Missions for great rewards, take on bot and human quads, and use Battlefield's signature destruction and vehicles to tilt the fight your way.
  • Make your life count and revive your squadmates before they are KIA. Second chances only come at the beginning of the match and while Redeploy Towers (big loud attention-magnets requiring time in a designated area) are active. Mobile Redeploys exist, but are rare, so don’t count on them.
  • Stay ahead of the ring - deadly on contact - stick with your squad, and outlast every other team on the map.
  • The last squad standing wins!

It’s that simple; as you continue dropping into Casual Battle Royale, you’ll not only learn how to play, but also how to win. Consider your first win a sign to queue into the regular Battle Royale Quad experience, and one day, you may feel ready to dip your toes into Ranked and become a Master!

Otherwise, Casual Battle Royale is here to test strategies and improve your game. Wondering what it’s like to start on the Evac Bravo beaches? Need to try out a potential new Starting Weapon or commit Common and Uncommon Weapon Knowledge down to memory? The stats don’t matter in Casual Battle Royale, so do what you must to create that winning gameplan.

NOTE: ALTERED PROGRESSION AND XP

Soldiers in tactical gear move through a dim underground tunnel, illuminated by flashlights and overhead lights, as blue laser beams cut across the smoky corridor.

Because not all Casual Battle Royale squads are human, Progression is tuned similarly to progression in Casual Multiplayer modes for Battlefield 6.

Mainly, players will only earn a small percentage of Career and Weapon XP for actions performed against Bots, but earn the full amount of Career and Weapon XP for actions against a player. For example, a kill against a fellow player grants 100 Career XP and 100 Weapon XP, but - at Season 3 High Value Target’s launch - that same kill against a Bot will only reward 15 Career XP and 15 Weapon XP.

Completing in-game objectives - e.g. Missions and general survival bonuses - also only reward a fraction of the XP normally earned in a standard Battle Royale Quads. And, once again similar to Battlefield Casual Multiplayer modes, Challenges can be completed in Casual Battle Royale, but may require more task completions (e.g. kills) compared to tackling the same challenge in a regular Battle Royale.

Furthermore, progress for Dog Tags and Accolades will not be earned in this mode, XP from Accolades will not be rewarded, and only certain stats will be tracked, such as Bot Kills, in order to level the playing field and keep player-versus-player (PvP) stats separate.

TOP TEN TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CASUAL BATTLE ROYALE

Soldiers move through a battlefield as massive explosions erupt in the background, with one soldier holding a knife while others advance towards him.

  1. CASUAL DOESN’T MEAN CODDLED. Fellow players are just as deadly as you are and Bots can pack a punch… Come prepared and use the Firing Range (via Loadouts in the Main Menu) for practice that isn’t live fire.
  2. SETTINGS TESTER. Need to get a feel for a different graphical, audio, or gameplay setting, especially on PC? A big map, massive playercount, and less statistical impact all add up to make this mode the place to lock those personalized settings in.
  3. TREAT ALL ENEMIES AS WARM-BLOODED. Bots look like human soldiers; even if you suspect it’s “not real,” engage with every squad as if they are another player just like you.
  4. TRY SOMETHING NEW. The stats don’t matter (almost) in Casual Battle Royale; use this place to test a different drop point, Starting Weapon, Class, Training Path, or general strategy.
  5. BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE. Struggling in regular Quads? There is no shame hitting the Casual lobby to retrain that aim and practice a new gameplan.
  6. STICK WITH YOUR SQUAD. Critical to any Battle Royale strategy: don’t stray too far from the squad, or you’ll be outnumbered and outgunned in most situations.
  7. SIDEARMS ARE SECONDARY TO SUCCESS. Another fact you’ll learn quickly in Casual Battle Royale: scavenge weapons that replace your Starting Weapon ASAP.
  8. DOWN, BUT NOT OUT. Don’t forget to revive your squadmates, especially when Second Chances and Redeploy Towers are unavailable.
  9. REMEMBER ALTERED PROGRESSION AND XP. Casual Battle Royale doesn’t reward normal XP; train here before getting full gains in regular Battle Royale!
  10. FRIENDS AND RECRUITS WELCOME! This mode is perfect for that friend who may get cold feet for regular Battle Royale games; REDSEC is free-to-play, so invite them for a Casual Battle Royale and welcome them onto the squad!
